Life sciences firm on course to launch emergency tech next year


A life sciences firm aims to bring its potentially life-saving technology to the market next year after securing a SMART: Scotland Research and Development grant from Scottish Enterprise.

Softcell Medical‘s pH monitoring system can help diagnose acute compartment syndrome (ACS), a trauma-related condition, two to three hours quicker than existing methods, a time window which can mean the difference between losing the use of a limb or potentially death.

Its ability to monitor in real-time acid levels in tissue can tell quickly whether a patient is in danger of developing ACS and how quickly they are deteriorating.
